Details. “We have made it clear that we will never support the strengthening of the European Union's sanctions against russia on energy,” Cabinet Minister Gergely Gulyas told HirTV on Sunday.
The European Commission is intending to propose a ban on russian oil by the end of the year due to the war in Ukraine, with restrictions on imports introduced gradually until then.
Hungary, which is heavily dependent on russian energy, has been one of the most active in opposing the strengthening of sanctions.
“Since such decisions require unanimity, it makes no sense for the commission to propose sanctions affecting natural gas and crude oil that would restrict Hungarian procurements,” said Cabinet Minister Gergely Gulyas referencing the EU officials.
