russia has banned the passage of ships with “foreign cargo” through the Kerch Strait

This may be connected with the return of Kherson under the control of Ukraine

russia has banned the passage of ships loaded outside the territory of the russian federation through the Kerch Strait to the Sea of Azov.

Source. The Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, The Insider reports.

Details. “According to the official notification we received from the Maritime Administration of the russian federation, the passage of vessels loaded outside the territory of the russian federation to the north through the Kerch Strait, which provides a passageway to the Azov Sea, is prohibited.”

According to military analysts, this may be related to the return of Kherson under Ukrainian control.

After the liberation of the right bank of the Dnieper River by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian army has new target zones for HIMARS missiles – the Isthmus of Perekop in Crimea and the entire Tauride steppe north of the peninsula.

The Kakhovka HPP and hydraulic structures of the North Crimean Canal are also in the target zone.

However, the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant is not beneficial to anyone: in case of explosion, Crimea will be left without water supply, as the dam regulates the water level in the Dnieper River and provides filling of the North Crimean Canal. In addition, the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant threatens to flood several dozen settlements.
