In January, the National Bank excluded 24 financial companies from the registers

Licences of another 45 companies were revoked

What happened? The National Bank of Ukraine excluded 24 non-banking financial services market participants from the registers and added one financial company. The number of banks remained unchanged at 67.

Details. Voluntarily withdrew from the register 14 financial companies, 1 credit, 1 leasing company and 2 pawnshops. Instead, 3 financial companies, 2 pawnshops, and a credit company were forced to leave the market. 

Moreover, in January, the NBU revoked all licences of 38 financial companies, 2 pawnshops, a credit union, and a leasing company (based on their applications). 3 financial companies were forced to leave the market (as a measure of influence).

The number of non-banking financial market participants in January decreased from 1459 (as of December 31, 2022) to 1436 (as of January 31, 2023). As of the end of January, 116 non-life insurers and 12 life insurers were operating in the non-banking market. The number of pawnshops decreased from 183 to 179; the number of credit unions was 162, now 160; the number of leasing companies decreased to 97 (from 98), and financial companies – to 744 (from 760). The number of insurance brokers and collection companies remained unchanged – 61 and 67, respectively.

In January, the licences of 10 financial companies, 2 pawnshops, and 5 leasing companies were renewed. In total, the NBU received 431 requests from market participants for registration and licensing actions last month: 232 were from financial companies, pawnshops, and lessors; 94 were from credit institutions (banks and credit unions); 68 and 37 were from insurers and payment institutions, respectively.
