Hungary blocks allocation of €500 million to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund

Budapest opposes the use of the peace fund to finance the provision of weapons to Ukraine

Hungary has unexpectedly blocked the allocation of the eighth tranche of military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund (EPF).

The amount of the tranche is 500 million euros and is due to be disbursed next Monday.

Budapest, according to the agency, requires guarantees that the peace fund will retain its global status in the future and will not be used exclusively to arm Kyiv.

The European Peace Fund was established in 2021 and is funded by contributions from EU member states.
