Pentagon announces a new aid package for Ukraine, which will include 55 armored vehicles and means of breaking through defense lines

The Pentagon has officially announced a new half-billion-dollar military aid package for Ukraine, which will include 55 armored vehicles, as well as missiles, shells and ammunition.

According to the US Department of Defense, the package will include, in particular:

• 30 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles
• 25 Stryker armored personnel carriers
• missiles for HIMARS installations
• anti-tank systems and missiles
• artillery shells
• equipment for the destruction and clearing of fortifications
• small arms and 22 million rounds of ammunition

"The Voice of America quoted an official as saying that the package would include a large number of Bangalore torpedoes, which are explosive charges placed in connected tubes designed to overcome obstacles from a protected position. The charge can be used to create a passage about 4 meters wide through barbed wire, dense undergrowth or minefields.

The official said that a smaller number of Bangalore torpedoes previously provided to the Ukrainian Armed Forces had proved "extremely useful" to the Ukrainian forces.

The weapons, ammunition, and equipment in this package will be transferred from U.S. Army warehouses.
