Britain is preparing to seize yachts of 5 russian billionaires

The United Kingdom has imposed additional sanctions on nine russians, adding transportation restrictions. Their yachts, airplanes, and other vehicles will be seized.

The sanctions will be strengthened, in particular, against five members of the Forbes billionaires list:

• Viktor Vekselberg ($6.8 billion);
• Arkadiy Rotenberg ($3.5 billion);
• Gennady Timchenko ($18.5 billion);
• Viktor Rashnikov, the main owner of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works ($10.2 billion);
• entrepreneur Said Kerimov, son of Senator Suleiman Kerimov (the senator's family is estimated to be worth $10.5 billion, after the war in Ukraine began, Suleiman Kerimov transferred a significant part of his assets to Said).

The document also indicates that sanctions against Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev, VTB Bank CEO Andrei Kostin, and Marina Sechina, the ex-wife of Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, have been tightened.

In addition, restrictions have become stricter on putin's godfather Viktor Medvedchuk, who is based in russia.

Background. Earlier, on July 17, London imposed sanctions on several russian officials and propagandists, including Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov, Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova, and the Artek International Children's Center.

In total, since the beginning of russia's invasion of Ukraine, Britain has frozen more than $23 billion in assets of russian citizens and imposed sanctions on more than 1,550 russian citizens.

The British government has stated that sanctions will remain in place until russia pays compensation to Ukraine.
