US imposes sanctions on companies that help produce Iranian drones

The United States has announced sanctions against companies in Iran, China, Turkey and the UAE, which, according to Washington, contribute to the development of Iran's drone program.

According to American estimates, as of July, Iran has provided Russia with more than 400 Shahed-131, Shahed-136 and Mojahed drones for use in the war against Ukraine.

"Iranian-made UAVs continue to be Russia's key tool in Ukraine," said Treasury Under Secretary for Counterterrorism Brian Nelson, who emphasized that these drones are used to strike civilians, civilian objects and infrastructure.

The sanctions were imposed, in particular, against:

• Iranian firm Pishgam Electronic Safeh Company
• Hongkong Himark Electron Model Limited, a Hong Kong-based company, for selling drone engines to Iran for more than $1 million
• two Turkish companies that facilitated financial transactions totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase engines from Hong Kong Himark
• and a UAE company that facilitated their supply.

"One of these servo motors was found among the remains of a Russian Shahed-136 drone that was recently shot down in Ukraine," said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
