Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy new air defense and drone countermeasures, as well as demining equipment.

Additional weapons for the Ukrainian army are aimed at helping in the counteroffensive against Russian aggressors.

"Spain will continue to support Ukraine's ability to defend its cities, energy infrastructure and ports," Acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said in a statement.
During the brief bilateral meeting, the two also discussed Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Kyiv expects progress on this issue, including the opening of negotiations by the end of Spain's six-month EU presidency, which began in early July.
Spain supports Ukraine's accession to the EU, but emphasizes that Kyiv needs to carry out reforms to meet the requirements contained in EU treaties.
Zelenskiy arrived in Granada on Thursday morning to attend a meeting of the leaders of the European Political Community, which brought together about 50 leaders from across the continent.
