The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi claims that Russian losses in the battle for Avdiivka amounted to "about 10,000 people." He did not specify whether he meant the killed and wounded or just the dead.
Zaluzhnyi posted on his telegram channel that a month ago the enemy "began to actively storm Avdiivka".
"A month of fierce fighting, endurance and victory for our defenders, who continue to heroically hold the line," Zaluzhny wrote.
According to him, more than 100 Russian tanks, 250 other armored vehicles, about 50 artillery systems and seven Su-25 aircraft were shot down over the month. The total enemy losses in manpower amounted to about ten thousand people, Zaluzhnyi said.
"I thank the brigades, our units. Infantry, artillery, tankers, scouts, UAV operators, medics. I thank each and every defender who is defending Avdiivka," emphasized the Commander-in-Chief.
According to the Ukrainian side, in November, a nearly 40,000-strong group of Russian troops began simultaneously pressing on Avdiivka from the northern and southern flanks, trying to cut the city's supply lines.
Avdiivka is a suburb of Donetsk, and over the nine years of fighting, the Ukrainian side has built strong defensive lines there.
