The Moldovan Defense Ministry said it has received a Ground Master 200 radar from the French company Thales, which is capable of scanning airspace within a 250 km radius and can be integrated into the country's air defense system, AFP reports.
Defense Minister Anatoliy Nosaty said in this regard:
"The recent incidents when our country's airspace was violated have again drawn the authorities' attention to the urgent need to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova."
Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Chisinau has repeatedly claimed that Russian missiles and drones flew into Moldovan airspace. Many targets of Russian strikes were located near the Moldovan border, especially in Odesa region.
The Moldovan authorities announced plans to purchase the radar in September, but did not disclose the price.
Moldova has condemned Russia's aggression against Ukraine and has since turned its foreign policy course toward integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions.
Last week, the European Union officially invited Moldova, along with Ukraine, to negotiate EU membership.
