Klitschko comments on Zaluzhny's dismissal

He hopes the government "understands the seriousness of the steps it is taking now"

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who has long had a strained relationship with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, does not find the explanations for Valeriy Zaluzhnyi's resignation as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine convincing. This is stated in his post on the telegram channel.

"... I hope the authorities will explain such changes to the public. When there are heavy battles on the frontline, when it is necessary to continue effective cooperation with foreign partners. When the unity of society requires trusted authorities," Klitschko wrote.

Earlier in the week, Klitschko had already spoken out against the resignation of Zaluzhnyi, who, according to the Kyiv mayor, "made Ukrainians truly believe in our Armed Forces, which are the most trusted today."

"I hope that the government understands the seriousness of the steps it is taking now and the full extent of its responsibility. Because today, when Ukraine is literally fighting for its very existence, the main thing is the combat capability and cohesion of the army and the unity of society," Klitschko wrote.

Background. As reported, Zelenskyy appointed Syrskyy as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, Zelenskyy offered Syrskyy "to continue to be in the team of the Ukrainian state".
