French Armed Forces Commander: Western support for Ukraine may not be limited to arms supply

The war will end when Russia stops attacking, Burcar is convinced

Russia should not expect that the West will limit its support for Ukraine to arms supplies, said the Chief of the Joint Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Thierry Bourcar.

In late February, French President Emmanuel Macron said he did not rule out the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine.

"The war will end when Russia stops attacking," Burkar said after talks in Paris with General Mikael Büden, the commander-in-chief of the Swedish Armed Forces, which recently joined NATO.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin "has built his operation on the idea that the West will never enter Ukraine, but will simply supply weapons," Burkar was quoted as saying by AFP.

"We have to show him that he will not be able to use this logic to go all the way, because this idea is false," he added.

"The war in Ukraine worries us because we are affected by its consequences. Therefore, Europeans must be able to take risks to ensure the security of Europe in the coming decade," the French general stressed.

Background. Meanwhile, Russia has said that France is preparing to send 2,000 troops to Ukraine. Paris called it a deliberate use of disinformation as a political ploy.
