Germany has no intention of stopping military aid to Ukraine – fact-checking

The current German budget for aid to Ukraine for 2025 is 4 billion euros, money are already fully contracted

Recently, some pro-Russian (and some Ukrainian) media outlets have spread information claiming that Germany has stopped arms supplies to Ukraine because “the Bundeswehr has reached the limit of what is possible.”

This information is also widely spread on social networks.

Meanwhile, the X account German Aid to Ukraine, which carefully calculates the amount of German aid provided to Ukraine, denies this information.

“This is not true, completely fake information. Germany has signed contracts for aid to Ukraine until 2028, 2029. This year alone, Germany will provide Ukraine with military aid worth at least 4 billion euros,” the expert said.

He explained that the weapons ran out in German warehouses back in 2022, and since then Germany has been supplying Ukraine primarily with weapons purchased directly from industry.

“I assume that they are reusing the old press conference from 2022, when something similar was said. It has been known since 2022 that the German troops had few weapons left in the warehouses,” he noted.

The analyst suggested that the information about the depletion of stocks related to further supplies of Patriots and shells for them.

“Germany has transferred to Ukraine (more than to anyone else) a significant part of its fire units and missiles, BILD reported this a few months ago. However, we should not forget that the absolute majority of weapons supplies (to Ukraine) from Germany today are still financed through industry, and not from the existing stocks of the Bundeswehr. So in fact, the news is not true.”

He announced an increase in German military aid to Ukraine to 7 billion euros this year.

“The current German budget (for aid to Ukraine) for 2025 is 4 billion euros, they are already fully contracted (for example, 370,000 artillery shells, IRIS-T SLM, MRAP, etc.), so there is currently no money for additional orders. If 3 billion euros are approved, this will increase the aid to 7 billion euros – thus, we will receive a total of 7 billion euros of military aid (to Ukraine) for 2025,” the expert added.

Background. As reported, Germany is discussing the creation of a new fund to increase military spending and support Ukraine against the backdrop of the Russian threat. The authorities are considering several financing options.

Recall that the future Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz believes that the US deliberately organized a quarrel between Zelensky and Trump in the Oval Office. This incident is a continuation of a pattern of recent US behavior, including at the Munich Conference, the politician assured.
