The United States delegation headed by the leader of the republican minority in the upper house of Congress Mitchell McConnell visited Kyiv.
This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky: “The visit of the U.S. Senate delegation led by the head of the Republican minority in the upper house of Congress, Mitchell McConnell, sends a strong signal of bipartisan support for Ukraine by the United States Congress and the American people. Thank you for your leadership in helping us in our fight not only for our country but also for democratic values and freedoms. We appreciate that a lot.”
Zelensky noted that today Ukraine is struggling against russia, defending not only its state, but also democratic values and freedoms, the right of peoples to freely choose their own future.
“russia is committing genocide against the Ukrainian people. It is commiting war crimes that terrify the whole world – tortures, mass shootings, rapes. Europe has not seen such crimes since World War II,” Zelensky said
“I look forward to the United States' support for further sanctions. In addition, we believe that russia should be officially recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism,” emphasized Zelensky.
The President called the entry into force of the American Lend-Lease law and protection of democracy in Ukraine a significant event for Ukrainian.
Zelensky also expressed hope that the US Senate will promptly approve a package of additional funding to support the Ukrainian people, which has already been considered in the House of Representatives and increased from $33 billion to $39.6 billion.
