What happened? The power deficit remains significant due to the emergency repair of one of the units of a thermal power plant, which reduced the total volumes of electricity production.

Details. The reason for the deficit are russian missile and drone attacks that damaged power plants (generating capacities) and the high-voltage grid. The latest russian attack on January 14 caused significant damage to several units of thermal power plants.
Due to the reduction in total electricity production, all oblast power distribution companies have been informed of reduced consumption limits for the entire day.
It is noted that in the frontline areas of Donetsk Oblast there are damages in the networks of the transmission system operator. Ukrenergo, electricity producers and oblast power distribution companies are constantly working to restore the damaged facilities. However, after each subsequent russian attack on the energy infrastructure, the restoration becomes more difficult and takes longer.
The company reminds that Ukraine's power system has already survived 12 enemy missile attacks and 14 UAV strikes on power facilities. In addition, more than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are currently inaccessible to the Ukrainian power system and are under enemy control. These include Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest in Ukraine and Europe, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vuhlehirsk TPP, and Kakhovka HPP.
"Most wind and solar power plants are also located in the temporarily occupied territories of the south. Apart from nuclear power plants, the rest of the power plants are key regulatory capacities. They cover consumption in the peak morning and evening hours, where there is currently the largest deficit," Ukrenergo explains.
