Speaking in Warsaw, U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized that the war in Ukraine was started by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and he can end it as well.
In particular, in his speech, Biden addressed the Russians.
"I want to address the Russian people: The United States and European countries do not want to destroy Russia. We do not plan to attack Russia, to take over Russia, as Putin said today. We want to live in peace. We are not your enemies.
This war is not caused by necessity, it is a tragedy. Putin chose this war. It began at his request. He can end this war at any time, he just needs to say one word.
If Russia stops its invasion, the war will end now. If Ukrainians stop defending themselves, it will be the end of Ukraine. That is why we will help Ukraine defend itself," the US President said.
"The war has been going on for a year now, and Putin thinks that we will get tired, stop supporting Ukraine and will not be able to maintain our unity. But our support will not stop," he emphasized.
"We are doing everything necessary to make Russia pay a high price. And this week we will announce new sanctions and hold accountable those responsible for starting this war," Biden announced.
"The United States will always strictly adhere to its obligations under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Russia knows that if it attacks even one country, it will be considered an attack on the entire NATO bloc," the American president emphasized.
Background. As a reminder, Biden said in his speech that Putin cannot be pacified, he can only be defeated.
