The russian war has pushed another 8 million Ukrainians below the poverty line.
Arup Banerji, the World Bank Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe, said this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
The representative of the financial institution emphasised that Ukraine was thus thrown back 15 years in achieving its goals of reducing poverty.
"At the same time, the amazing resilience shown by Ukraine and Ukrainians is largely due to the complex and successful macroeconomic management and institution-building reforms that the authorities have implemented in the years leading up to the war," Mr. Banerji explained.
He added that Ukraine had been able to balance efforts to increase competition and economic efficiency with protecting the most vulnerable segments of the population.
