Zelensky imposes sanctions on Bashar al-Assad and about 300 other people

Besides, sanctions have been imposed on 141 legal entities, including the manufacturer of Iranian UAVs

Ukraine has imposed sanctions against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to a decree issued by President Volodymyr Zelensky on 18 March.

According to the document, the sanctions against Mr. Assad have been imposed for a period of 10 years.

In this way, President Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defence Council to apply and amend personal special economic and other sanctions.

The relevant Decree No. 163/2023 was published on the President's website.

"To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine of 18 March 2023 'On the application and amendment of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)'," the document says.

In addition, sanctions were imposed against Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.

Sanctions were also imposed on 141 legal entities. Among them are the Iranian drone manufacturer Shahed, as well as companies from russia, Iran, and the UAE.

Besides, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps – the UAV Command of the Aerospace Forces, Aghajani Saeed Ara Jani, was subject to restrictive measures.

Sanctions were also imposed on other Iranian citizens. In total, the list contains 300 names of individuals, most of whom are russian citizens.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, is in charge of overseeing the implementation of the NSDC decision.
