The Verkhovna Rada adopts law to increase state defence budget expenditures by 518 billion UAH

Another 19 billion UAH to be allocated to the reserve fund

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted in its entirety the law No. 9105 "On Amendments to the Law 'On the State Budget for 2023' on Provision of Expenditures for the Security and Defence Sector". 325 MPs voted in favour.

This was announced by Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP, Deputy Chairman of the Financial Committee.

The law provides for an increase in additional spending on national security and defence by 518.15 billion UAH. More than 70% of the amount – 372.5 billion UAH – will be provided to the Ministry of Defence (together with the State Service of Special Transport); another 98.3 billion UAH – to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (National Police, State Border Guard Service, National Guard, State Emergency Service); the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine will receive 4.6 billion and 9.3 billion UAH respectively. 31.6 billion UAH will be allocated to the State Special Communications Service; 807.6 million UAH – to the Foreign Intelligence Service.

477.23 billion UAH will be allocated for salaries; 30.24 billion UAH – for military (special) equipment and machinery. Other expenses will amount to 10.7 billion UAH. 

Separately, the expenditures of the general fund of the state budget will be increased by 19 billion UAH – up to 33.42 billion UAH. It is noted that such an increase in state budget expenditures is a record in the history of Ukraine. 

Previously. President Zelensky signed a law to increase state budget expenditures by 5.5 billion UAH.
