The EU will allocate 30 million euros to Polish farmers to compensate for grain exports from Ukraine

Farmers in Europe are protesting against the flooding of their countries with cheap Ukrainian grain

The European Union will allocate 30 million euros to Polish farmers, and Warsaw will provide the same amount from the state budget. In total, farmers will receive 280 million zlotys.

Source. This was announced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Facebook.

"Poland will receive another financial compensation from the EU! This time for losses from the import of Ukrainian grain. This is almost 30 million euros from the EU plus twice as much from the state budget – a total of about 280 million zlotys," the Prime Minister said.

Earlier, Poland requested the allocation of funds. The support of Polish farmers was announced a week ago by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

"I spoke with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton, the heads of government of the EU countries about how not to harm local markets and hardworking farmers, and together with five other prime ministers we sent a letter on this issue demanding immediate action," Morawiecki wrote.

At the same time, EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski said he would support trade restrictions with Ukraine if Poland proposed such a solution.

"If the Polish government demands to restrict trade with Ukraine, I will support this proposal," he told the media in Brussels, Reuters reports.

Earlier, several EU countries expressed concern that due to the abolition of duties for Ukraine, the European market has been flooded with cheap Ukrainian grain, and EU countries cannot export it.

Yesterday, protests against duty-free imports began in Bulgaria. Farmers blocked several checkpoints.

It is noted that Bulgarian farmers will also receive assistance from the EU – 17 million euros. Romanian farmers will receive another 10 million.
