The German government has granted Poland permission to transfer Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.

It was reported earlier this day that Poland had asked Germany for permission to transfer the planes.
These planes belonged to the army of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), and then Germany transferred them to Poland. Now Poland, as the country of origin of this military equipment, must agree to its re-export.
In March, Poland already handed over four MiGs to Ukraine, and President Andrzej Duda announced that several more aircraft would be delivered soon.
Also in March, Slovakia became the second NATO country to officially transfer combat aircraft to Ukraine, announcing the transfer of all 13 of its MIG-29s.
