The European Council today approved a €1 billion aid package under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The measure will allow the EU to reimburse member states for the cost of ammunition transferred to Ukraine from its stockpiles or through new orders between February 9 and May 31, 2023.
Source. This is stated in a press release on the EU website.
"With this decision, we are putting into effect the first part of the historic agreement reached by EU leaders to support the immediate supply of €1 billion worth of artillery ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces. There is no better demonstration of EU unity than to continue to support Ukraine's legitimate right to self-defense against the brutal Russian aggressor," the statement said.
Together with the previous seven tranches of support, the total amount of EU military assistance to Ukraine under the EPF reaches 4.6 billion euros and once again proves that the EU remains unwavering in its support for the Ukrainian military in defending the country against illegal Russian aggression, the press release said.
Background. It was also reported that South Korea "lent" the United States 500,000 shells, which will help in supplying ammunition to Ukraine.
