Polish PKN Orlen invests almost PLN 60 billion in gas exploration and production

The company announces an increase in gas production in Poland and Norway, calling it an investment in security

Polish oil concern Orlen has announced an increase in natural gas production in Poland and Norway.

According to the company's president, Daniel Obajtko, the company intends to spend almost 60 billion zlotys on gas exploration and production over the next 7 years.

Source. This was reported by Polish Radio.

During a visit to an oil and natural gas mine in Lublin, he said that such a decision is an investment in Poland's security. According to him, Subcarpathia and Malopolska are very promising areas for production.

"If we produce 12 billion cubic meters of gas in Poland and Norway, we will automatically feel safer. In addition, our LNG terminal and our tankers will protect us. But we are also negotiating in the region to become a supplier of this raw material not only in Poland but also in the region – including through interconnectors," Daniel Obaytek emphasized.

In 2022, PKN Orlen increased its production to 7.7 billion cubic meters of gas from domestic and foreign fields.

According to the country's Ministry of Climate and Environment, natural gas consumption in Poland in 2022 amounted to 16.62 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Background. Earlier it became known that the Polish PKN Orlen has finally terminated all oil contracts with Russia. Although the agreement with Tatneft was due to expire in 2024, the Polish side stated that these contracts no longer exist.
