Zelensky signs law on tax exemption for real estate destroyed by russia

The law defines the period and conditions for exemption from this tax

President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law exempting real estate property destroyed or damaged due to russia's armed aggression from taxation.

This is stated in the bill card.

According to Yaroslav Zhelezniak, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, "the exemption of land payments for individuals (for the whole of 2022) and legal entities (1 March 2022 – 1 January 2023) will apply if the land plot is located in the territories of active hostilities or occupied territories." Starting from 2023, the exemption will be valid until the last day of the month in which active hostilities or occupation will end, he added.

In addition, the law provides for the exemption of real estate tax for individuals in 2021 and 2022, and for legal entities from 1 March 2022 to 1 January 2023, if their residential property is located in the territories where active hostilities took place or in occupied territories. Starting from 2023, this exemption will be valid until the last day of the month in which the hostilities or occupation ends.

In addition, the Group 4 single tax exemption for land plots located in the territories with active hostilities or occupied territories will be effective from 1 March 2022 and will last until the end of hostilities. However, if the hostilities or temporary occupation on the land plot ended before 1 May 2022, the exemption does not apply.
