The Pentagon has announced a new military assistance package for Ukraine to strengthen its air defense and meet its artillery ammunition needs.
Source. This is stated in a message published on the website of the military department.
This package, totaling up to $1.2 billion, is provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which provides for the long-term security needs of Ukraine.
Under the USAI, the US Department of Defense procures the necessary resources from industry and partners, rather than providing them from Pentagon resources. Therefore, this announcement marks the beginning of the process of signing contracts to provide Ukraine with additional priority capabilities, the US Department of Defense clarifies.
The new package includes:
"The United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with the capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield and long-term security needs," the statement said.
Background. As a reminder, on May 3, the US Secretary of State announced a $300 million military aid package for Ukraine.
