Ukrzaliznytsia has reached an agreement with Lithuania on a railway connection between the Baltic ports and Ukraine, bypassing russia and Belarus

In addition, the representatives of the Ukrainian Railways made arrangements for cooperation with the Polish company LAUDE SMART INTERMODAL

Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) has signed memorandums of understanding and cooperation with the group of companies Lithuanian Railways (LTG). The railwaymen plan to implement the joint project FREE Rail Operational Model. 

This was reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia. The respective agreements were reached during the Transport logistic 2023 exhibition in Munich.

The purpose of the cooperation is to strengthen relations in the field of railway transport, increase throughput capacity and interoperability of transport infrastructure according to the flows of freight and passenger transport passing through Lithuania and Ukraine and constantly growing.

"We are talking about creating a compatible, stable, and independent railway system from aggressor countries, and the development of freight and passenger transport on the 1,520 mm gauge between democratic countries," Ukrzaliznytsia reported.

As part of the project, the railwaymen also plan to develop alternative transport corridors that connect the ports of the Baltic Sea with Ukraine and bypass russia and Belarus.

For further cooperation in the field of railway transport, the representatives of UZ also reached an agreement with the Polish company LAUDE SMART INTERMODAL S.A.

In particular, in the signed memorandum, the parties identified areas of cooperation: development of partnerships with an emphasis on intermodal solutions for crane-less trailers; studying the potential for cooperation in the transportation of bulk cargo; management of railway wagons, including their proper maintenance and servicing; optimization of the wagon fleet and its services; improvement of railway logistics solutions; digitization of transport processes; exchange of know-how and practical experience.

Background. Recently, Ukraine and France signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of transport. The document envisages strengthened provision of bridges for Ukraine and support for Ukrzaliznytsia.
