Germany is preparing the largest arms package for Ukraine since the beginning of the war

Germany intends to provide Ukraine with the largest arms package since the beginning of the russian invasion. It will amount to 2.7 billion euros.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defense, the new support package includes artillery and air defense systems, armored combat vehicles and engineering equipment. In particular, it will include:

• 18 self-propelled howitzers,
• artillery ammunition
• guided missiles for air defense systems,
• IRIS-T SLM anti-aircraft missile launchers
• 12 IRIS-T SLS launchers.

The package also includes:

• 30 Leopard 1A5 battle tanks,
• 20 Marder-Schützenpanzer armored combat vehicles,
• more than 100 armored combat vehicles
• more than 200 unmanned aerial vehicles.

"All of this and much more is delivered from warehouses and directly from the assembly lines," the Ministry of Defense said.

This round of military aid was agreed upon during secret talks between the ministries and agencies of the Federal Chancellor. It is to be timed to coincide with the awarding of the Charlemagne Prize to the President of Ukraine in Aachen on Sunday, May 14.

At the same time, representatives of Germany and Ukraine failed to agree on Zelenskyy's visit to Germany. He will not be able to receive the award in person because of the situation in Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will deliver the acceptance speech on his behalf.
