MPs propose to postpone the permission for companies to purchase agricultural land

This permission is currently set to come into effect on 1 January 2024, however, the parliamentarians propose to enact it two years after the abolition of martial law

Members of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's Parliament) propose to allow legal entities to purchase agricultural land two years from the day of termination or abolition of martial law.

The relevant bill was registered by a group of deputies on 29 May on the VRU website.

Moreover, within two years from the day of termination or abolition of martial law in Ukraine, the following restrictions are proposed:

a) Ukrainian citizens cannot own more than 100 hectares of land for agricultural use. This does not apply to land they already owned before this rule was implemented.

b) It is prohibited to sell or transfer land parcels intended for agricultural production or allotted to land share owners for personal peasant farming to legal entities.

It is also forbidden to sell land shares, except in cases where ownership rights are transferred to banks as collateral, or they are inherited, exchanged for another land parcel of similar value or with a difference in value not exceeding 10%. Deals on the sale or transfer of such parcels to legal entities, as well as the transfer of rights to such deals in the future, are considered invalid from the moment they are made.
