Reuters: African mediators want to ask russia to withdraw troops

On Thursday, Andrzej Duda hosted an African delegation in Warsaw.

The presidents of several African countries, who are trying to mediate negotiations to end russia's war in Ukraine, intend to offer as "confidence-building measures" the withdrawal of russian troops on the one hand and the easing of sanctions on the other.

According to the draft document, which was reviewed by a Reuters correspondent, other "confidence-building measures" that African leaders want to offer include suspension of the International Criminal Court's warrant for the arrest of war criminal vladimir putin, as well as the withdrawal of russian tactical nuclear weapons from Belarus.

The African mediation mission includes the presidents of South Africa, Senegal, Egypt, Zambia, and the Comoros.

On Thursday, the African delegation met in Warsaw with Polish President Andrzej Duda, on Friday it is scheduled to arrive in Kyiv to talk to Volodymyr Zelensky, and on Saturday it will meet with putin in St. Petersburg.

Most Ukrainian, russian, European, and American politicians and international observers are skeptical about the prospects for a peacekeeping mission by African leaders.

Background. Earlier, it was reported that Africa would send a "peacekeeping mission" to the presidents of Ukraine and russia to discuss ending the war.
