CNN: US President Joe Biden is ready to simplify Ukraine's accession to NATO

Earlier, Stoltenberg suggested simplifying the procedure for joining the Alliance

The US President is ready to remove one of the obstacles to Ukraine's accession to NATO, CNN reports, citing informed sources.

Reportedly, Joe Biden may allow Kyiv to abandon the so-called NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) adopted in 2008.

This is a program that all NATO members had to go through before joining the Alliance. It provides for consultations and practical assistance that are developed individually for each new member.

This minor, but still simplification of the accession procedure was proposed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during his meeting with Joe Biden in Washington earlier this week.

The US president is trying hard to come up with proposals that would be supported by other NATO members and demonstrate to Ukraine that it is making progress on the path to joining the Alliance.

At the same time, Washington reminds us that Kyiv still needs to implement a number of key reforms to become a full member of NATO.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously acknowledged that Ukraine will not be able to become a NATO member as long as the war with Russia continues.
