Water level in Kherson Oblast drops nearly 5 metres after dam explosion

Simultaneously, the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir has dropped below 7 metres

The water level in the Dnieper River in Kherson Oblast dropped almost 5 metres following the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station dam.

This information is reported by the Headquarters for the Elimination of Consequences of the Kakhovka HPP Dam Sabotage.

It is noted that at its peak, the water level reached 5.68 metres. Currently, the indicator is falling approximately 1 cm per hour and stands at 0.79 metres. The Headquarters emphasise that before the dam explosion, the water stood at a level of 0.31 metres.

In addition, following the analysis of photo and video materials from drones, specialists from Ukrhydroenergo have determined that the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir may be lower than 7 metres.

Background. Mind previously reported that residents of the affected rayons in Kherson Oblast will start receiving gas supply from 26 June. Overall, it will take at least one to two months to repair and restart the energy infrastructure in Kherson Oblast.
