At a meeting on Monday in Paris, 41 companies announced that they would help a quarter of a million refugees who found themselves in Europe, primarily women from Ukraine, to find work or take courses and learn a new profession.

Hotel chains Hilton and Marriott International and several other companies have pledged to hire 13,680 refugees, the world's largest recruitment agencies, including Adecco, ManpowerGroup and Randstad, have pledged to help 152,000 refugees find jobs, and another group of large firms has pledged to train 86,000 refugees in new professions.

E-commerce giant Amazon alone promises to hire five thousand people to work in its offices in Europe, while the company has pledged to hire the same number of refugees by the end of 2024 in its home country, the United States.

Amazon employs 200 thousand people in Europe. The new employees will be mainly engaged in the fulfillment of orders at the grassroots level, but, as assured by the company's Vice President Jay Ofori Agboka, capable people who improve their skills will be able to move up the career ladder.

The charity organization Tent Partnership for Refugees coordinates private companies' assistance to refugees.

European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas said at a meeting in Paris that too many of the millions of refugees in Europe are currently unable to find work.

"This is despite our chronic shortage of skilled labor, their high level of education, their desire to earn a living and the availability of work permits under the EU Temporary Protection Directive," the EU official added.

"This unprecedented assistance from businesses across the continent is very important and will help tens of thousands of Ukrainian women to support themselves and their families in Ukraine," Schinas continued.

According to UN estimates, there are currently about 6 million Ukrainian refugees in Western and Central Europe, and the vast majority of them are women with children.

The Tent Partnership for Refugees notes that it is especially difficult for them to find work because they need to take care of their children.
