NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has announced that the allies of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization have agreed to remove Ukraine's obligation to implement a Membership Action Plan (MAP).
He made this announcement at a press conference which took place on Tuesday in Vilnius, following the conclusion of a meeting of the heads of states and governments of member countries of the organization.
"We reaffirmed that Ukraine will become a member of NATO and agreed to remove the requirement for a Membership Action Plan. This will change Ukraine’s membership path from a two-step path to a one-step path," Stoltenberg stated.
At the same time, he noted that NATO would invite Ukraine when all allies agree.
"We have also made it clear that we will extend an invitation to Ukraine to join NATO when the allies agree and when conditions allow," Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Vilnius on Tuesday.
