India will take part in international talks on a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine to be held in Saudi Arabia on August 5 and 6, a spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.
South Korea is also considering the possibility of participating in the Jeddah summit.
Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have invited about 30 countries to the meeting, including the largest EU states, the United States, as well as India, Brazil, Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile, and Zambia.
Russia was not invited to the summit, as its main topic will be the Ukrainian Peace Formula, which includes a demand for the liberation of the occupied territories that is unacceptable to Moscow.
The US also confirmed earlier that US officials would attend the talks.
China will send special representative for Eurasian affairs Li Hui to the peace talks on the war in Ukraine to be held in Saudi Arabia, the Wall Street Journal reports.
According to WSJ sources, since the American side will be represented by White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the talks will provide a "rare opportunity" for the exchange of views on the Russian-Ukrainian war between the United States and China.
It is noted that China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, has recently been frequently speaking about the protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the need for an early ceasefire and the search for political solutions. At the same time, China is the largest importer of Ukrainian grain, the export of which was jeopardized by Ukraine's withdrawal from the grain deal.
Russia withdrew from the agreement on July 17, and on July 19, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that starting July 20, it would consider all ships sailing in the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports as potential carriers of military cargo, and the countries whose flags they fly would be considered involved in the war.
On July 20, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine made similar statements regarding ports in Russian and Russian-occupied territories.
