In response to the provocations, Poland is ready to take decisive measures against belarus, up to the closure of rail freight transportation.
Source. This was stated by Deputy Minister of the Interior of Poland Maciej Wasik to the PAP agency.
According to him, if Minsk continues its hostile actions, Poland is ready to join forces with Lithuania and possibly Latvia to completely isolate belarus. Wasik also noted that this applies to both rail and road crossings.
"We realize that a significant part of trade, including trade with China, goes through these routes. I think that the Chinese authorities will also send a clear signal to Lukashenko to refrain from actions that could harm them," Wasik emphasized.
On the border between Poland and belarus, the Terepol road crossing has been opened for passenger traffic and the Kukuriki cargo crossing for EU carriers. Earlier, several crossings were closed.
Lithuania also announced its intention to close two of the six border crossings with belarus.
This decision comes amid fears that the belarusian authorities may repeat an attempt to send a large-scale wave of migrants across the border, as they did during the 2021 crisis, when hundreds of people tried to break through to Poland.
Currently, about 2,000 military personnel are deployed on the Polish-belarusian border; hundreds of police and border guards have also been sent to the border. Initially, the Border Guard asked for an additional 1,000 soldiers, but the Polish authorities decided to double the number.
The soldiers will arrive at the border within the next two weeks to support the border guards.
At the end of July, belarus conducted joint exercises with the Wagner PMC at the Brest training ground near the border with Poland. Three days later, Alexander Lukashenko told Putin that he was "annoyed" by the Wagner men because they were rushing to "go on an excursion" to Warsaw and Rzeszow.
On July 29, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki warned of a potential threat from Wagner PMC fighters who had moved towards the Suwalki corridor, which connects Poland with Lithuania and separates belarus from russia's Kaliningrad region. If russia captures this corridor, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will be cut off from other NATO countries.
