Every day, electronics, factory equipment, food and plastics are imported from Estonia to Russia. According to Foreign Minister Margus Tahkna, Estonia cannot close the border on its own, otherwise Estonian enterprises will suffer, the publication emphasizes.
The foreign minister added that trade restrictions should be discussed with the foreign ministers of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Finland, ERR reports.
According to Kai Kallas, other border countries have not yet supported Estonia's proposal. She emphasized that Finland is the key country in this matter.
Kaja Kallas, 45, is the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Estonia. Even before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, when the world was only discussing the concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, Estonia under her leadership had already begun supplying weapons to Ukraine. In the year from January 2022 to the end of May 2023, Estonia was the leader in terms of the share of GDP allocated to military aid to Ukrainians.
