The US demands that Poland explain its statements on suspension of military support for Ukraine

Washington is waiting for Warsaw to make its position clear

The United States is seeking clarification from Poland on its support for Ukraine following statements by Polish authorities about a possible suspension of military aid to Kyiv.

According to a Bloomberg source, the disagreements among the allies have not broken the unity of the coalition supporting Ukraine, but Washington is waiting for Warsaw to make its position clear.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on September 20 that the country would stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and focus on arming its own army.

Later, the country's authorities clarified that they would continue to supply arms under previously concluded contracts, but were not going to sign any new agreements.

Polish diplomats have privately assured their foreign counterparts that Poland's military support for Ukraine will continue, albeit on a smaller scale, a European diplomat said. He noted that the loss of Poland's support could harm Ukraine's efforts in the war and undermine NATO's unity.

The US military official also added that Ukraine is making steady progress in its counteroffensive against Russia. He acknowledged that this process is taking longer than the US and Ukraine had initially hoped. According to him, Ukraine is acting with extreme caution and consistency on the ground and is now able to strike behind the lines of Russian troops, disrupting their supply and command and control systems.

Background. As a reminder, Polish President Duda said that Prime Minister Morawiecki's words about stopping arms supplies to Ukraine were misunderstood.
