Turkey to provide Ukraine with hundreds of heavy machine guns

The deal provides for a much larger number of machine guns than 600 units, new batches will be sent to Ukraine "in the coming months

Ukraine has received more than 600 Canik M2 heavy machine guns from Turkey, which can be used by ground troops or mounted on armored vehicles.

Source. This was reported by moscowtimes.eu with reference to Middle East Eye.

The source said that these supplies will continue in the future. In March, Kyiv signed several contracts with the Turkish private arms manufacturer Canik.

"The agreement provides for the supply of a much larger number of machine guns than 600 units," the source said, adding that new batches would be sent to Ukraine "in the coming months."

The price of each machine gun is $15-20 thousand. This means that the cost of the weapons already received exceeds $10 million.

In August, the military blog Armourer Bench analyzed publicly available photos from the front and found several Canik M2s mounted on Nissan pickup trucks to combat kamikaze drones.

One Ukrainian source said that Turkish BMC Kirpi armored vehicles received last year may be equipped with these machine guns. According to unofficial estimates, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have more than 200 of these vehicles in service.

Since the beginning of the war, Turkey has been arming Ukraine with drones, laser-guided missiles, protective equipment, and armored vehicles. Also, after Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal, it became known that Ankara decided to provide Kyiv with T-155 Firtina tracked self-propelled artillery systems for the first time.

On October 2, the Turkish military company Baykar Makina allowed the transfer of heavy attack drones Bayraktar Akıncı capable of carrying cruise missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Its head Haluk Bayraktar said that this issue was under consideration.

He also noted that in the next year and a half, Baykar expects to complete the construction of a plant in Ukraine and produce "all the systems that are available," including Bayraktar Akıncı. The company has already received the necessary permits, Bayraktar emphasized.
