Ukrainian woman receives prestigious international award in mathematics

Her research finds application in the field of machine learning

Ukrainian Kateryna Pozharska has won a prestigious international award in mathematics.

This was reported on Facebook by the Faculty of Information Technology and Mathematics of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, where the researcher is a graduate.

The Joseph F. Traub Information-Based Complexity Young Researcher Award is awarded annually to only one young scientist (under 35) in the field of mathematics. Pozharska received the award for her "contribution to the theory of information complexity".

Kateryna Pozharska is a researcher at the Department of Function Theory at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She is also currently conducting postdoctoral research in Chemnitz, Germany, thanks to a Humboldt Foundation scholarship.

The working group in which Kateryna works focuses on modern problems of approximation theory and the development of algorithms for reducing information complexity, which are used in the field of machine learning.

The award is worth $1000 and includes a commemorative plaque.
