The United States has purchased 60 Gepard self-propelled air defense systems from Jordan, which will be transferred to Ukraine as military aid.
Source. This was reported by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
It is noted that these are 60 German-made units that the Netherlands sold to Amman in 2013. The US government bought them back for 110 million euros.
In total, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have 49 Gepard vehicles in service, supplied by Germany. They are mainly used to destroy low-flying targets, most often attack drones like the Iranian Shahed.
The use of Gepard air defense systems saves ammunition for more expensive air defense systems such as Patriot or Iris-T.
Background. As a reminder, in October, Germany handed over a new military aid package to Ukraine, which included, among other things, 3 Gepard units.
