Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has requested an emergency meeting with the country's international donors amid uncertainty over next year's budget and a delay in Western aid.
Source. Bloomberg reports.
In a letter sent to the coordination group that oversees funding, Shmyhal said that funding is needed next month and should be directed to Ukraine's basic budgetary needs.
"In order to maintain macroeconomic stability, it is imperative that we receive sufficient, immediate and predictable funding starting in January 2024," the letter said, as quoted by the agency.
Shmyhal also noted that Ukraine cannot expect to receive funding for social needs until March.
According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine currently has agreements with 11 countries on multi-year financing programs, an extended financing program with the IMF and support from other international financial organizations.
Background. As reported, Shmyhal promised timely payment of salaries to state employees and indexation of pensions in March. According to the Prime Minister, a possible delay in aid from the US and the EU will not affect the timeliness and amount of payments.
