Shelter without leaving home: Kyiv resident creates "life capsule" for UAH 70,000

It can withstand 99% of the debris caused by the fall or explosion of certain ammunition, says the developer

Kyiv resident Serhiy Zakharin has created a "home shelter" called the Life Capsule. According to the developer, this invention does not have a single weld and can be mounted in any room available in terms of space, Dev.Ua reports.

The developer proposes to install his steel structure in apartments, office buildings, and other premises.

The length of such a shelter is 2.1 meters, the height is 2.1 meters, and the width is 1.1 meters. The total weight of the structure is 750 kg, and the heaviest part of the capsule is 45 kg.

It is also known that the capsule does not allow mobile communication. However, it has emergency hatches on three sides that can be used if the doors are blocked.

At the same time, Serhiy Zakharin assures that the Life Capsule can withstand 99% of the debris caused by the fall or explosion of certain munitions. However, it is also known that this shelter is not designed for a direct hit.

To check the level of protective characteristics of the structure, the man has already conducted two tests, during which the developer was inside the "capsule".

In the first test, a concrete slab weighing 1.1 tons was dropped onto the steel shelter from a height of 9.3 meters. According to the inventor, the Life Capsule easily withstood the fall of the concrete slab.

During the second test, a 43-ton overall load was placed on the structure. However, he emphasized that "this is not the limit."

Zakharin has already manufactured and installed one capsule for a family living in a private house near Boyarka.

He noted that the shelter is a purely metal structure, and the customer is free to equip it from the inside at his own discretion. The developer recommends lining the inside with mineral wool and non-combustible plasterboard, which will soften the impact on people if the capsule falls.

According to the inventor, the structure can serve as a shelter in case of an earthquake and as a safe room if you need to leave home for a long time.

According to Serhiy, the cost of the "Life Capsule" is 53 thousand hryvnias, and almost all of the expenses are related to the cost of the material.

The developer sells the shelter for 70 thousand hryvnias. He pays a 5% tax on the proceeds. The inventor is currently working to reduce the cost of the Life Capsule.
