Chairman of JPMorgan: Supporting Ukraine is something that fits into the "America First" strategy

He shared that he wears a pin with a Ukrainian flag on his lapel because he is a supporter of Ukraine

Jamie Dimon, president, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, believes that supporting Ukraine is in the main strategic interests of the United States. He said this at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The American public must understand that supporting Ukraine's fight against Russia is supporting democracy around the world, said Dimon.

"We have to educate the American public that this is about freedom and democracy for the free world, and that's where the fight is right now (in Ukraine)," he told CNBC at WEF-2024 on Wednesday.

Asked whether his message would receive broad support from Americans and what might happen if Donald Trump wins this year's presidential election, Daimon said:

"We have to explain to American thought leaders that freedom and democracy are the main values around the world. American leaders need to explain to the American public why this is important. America First is a battleground for democracy and freedom."

Daimon said that he and other business leaders met with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Tuesday to discuss "refinancing" Ukraine's recovery from the war with Russia.

"So he's starting to think ahead," Daimon said of the Ukrainian president.

He shared that he wears a pin with a Ukrainian flag on his lapel:

"My heart goes out to this guy. People forget that every day he wakes up in the morning on a 600-mile front where a million soldiers are fighting the Russians, and they have already lost 300,000 lives. It can go on longer. We have to help them," said the JPMorgan director.

Background. The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the world's largest financial funds in Davos. The meeting was attended by JP Morgan Chase CEO James Dimon, JP Morgan Asset & Wealth Management CEO Mary Erdoes, JP Morgan Head of Capital Markets Stefan Weiler and others.
