According to the newspaper, this is due to progress in the Pentagon's acquisition of a new generation system called Precision Strike Missile.
Last year, the United States sent Kyiv a small number of missiles with a range of up to 160 km, which allowed the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike at Russian military equipment at airfields in occupied Berdiansk and Luhansk.
At the time, the New York Times wrote that Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin was against the supply of longer-range missiles (up to 290 km). He pointed out that the United States has only a limited stock of such missiles, and supplying them to Kyiv could lead to a decrease in defence capabilities.
The acquisition of the Precision Strike Missile system will remove this obstacle to the supply of missiles to Kyiv, although US officials have not yet confirmed that the decision has been made, the WSJ reports.
