EU countries will supply Ukraine with almost half of the one million shells promised to Kyiv by the end of March.
Source. This was reported by Peter Stano, the spokesman for the EU's chief of diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
"One of our political goals remains unchanged: we will supply Ukraine with 1 million artillery rounds this year. As for the planned date of the end of March, it will be about half a million shells," the spokesman said at a briefing in Brussels on Tuesday.
According to him, Borrell described the situation with the supply of ammunition to Kyiv in detail at a press conference after the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting the day before.
At this press conference, the head of European diplomacy said, in particular, that "any member state that wants to buy ammunition outside the European Union, because it has an offer or knows where to buy it, can do so, and it can be reimbursed from the European Peace Fund."
"Member states that want to buy ammunition for Ukraine can get it from anywhere. From their own stockpiles, from the European defence industry, from any supplier around the world," Borrell said.
Background. Earlier, Borrell said that the outcome of the war would be decided in the spring and summer. He therefore called for no delay in providing military assistance to Ukraine.
