German prosecutors have launched an investigation into a leaked conversation between Bundeswehr officers discussing the supply of arms to Ukraine, including the possibility of sending Taurus missiles.
Source. This was reported by the AFP news agency.
A representative of the prosecutor's office told the agency that German law enforcement agencies will try to find out who could have been behind the wiretapping and whether there was an attempt to spy.
In early March, Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan published an audio recording of a general and several officers of the German Air Force discussing the parameters of using Taurus missiles, in particular for strikes on the Crimean bridge.
Later, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz acknowledged that the conversation between the officers was genuine and promised to conduct a quick investigation.
It was also reported that the meeting of the military leadership was held via the WebEx platform, and one of its participants may have joined via an unsecured communication channel while staying at a hotel in Singapore.
It is possible that the conversation could have been intercepted by people in or near the Singapore hotel, who picked up the signal using special equipment.
Background. Meanwhile, it was reported that the manufacturer of Taurus missiles is ready to train the Ukrainian military to use these missiles in practice. And the presence of the German military is not required for this, the company explained.
