The minister noted that the Polish authorities have begun to strengthen the metal barrier along the border with Belarus to stop illegal migration and protect the border.
"We are repairing and strengthening the barrier on the Polish-Belarusian border. The expenditures for this purpose are the highest in history," Kosyniak-Kamysh said in an interview with Zet radio station.
In mid-February, The Times reported that the Baltic states would build more than 1,000 concrete bunkers on the borders with Russia and Belarus. According to the newspaper, the "Baltic Defence Line" will include all the means to deter potential invaders: anti-tank mines, ditches, barbed wire and the so-called "dragon's teeth". Ammunition depots will be located near the borders. Construction is scheduled to begin in January next year.
The Estonian authorities are going to spend about 60 million euros on the construction of 600 facilities along the entire border with Russia. Each of these bunkers, measuring 37 square metres, will be able to accommodate about a dozen soldiers and will be protected from artillery strikes, said Susan Lilloväli, Vice Chancellor of the Ministry of Defence.
Earlier, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosyniak-Kamysz said that the authorities of the republic do not rule out an attack by Russia after the end of the war in Ukraine. According to him, the Polish Ministry of Defence has already begun to take concrete steps against this threat, in particular, it has started to fill the gaps in the army's equipment: contracts for the supply of weapons worth 19 billion zlotys (over 4 billion euros) have been signed, mainly with Polish defence companies.
