About 50% of Ukrainians believe that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has failed to fulfil all or most of his election promises, according to a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) published on 5 June, cited by kyivindependent.com.
Sociologists interviewed 1,002 respondents from all regions of Ukraine that are not under Russian occupation. Participants were asked to what extent Zelenskyy had fulfilled his election promises during his five years in office.
Almost 18% of respondents believe that the president has fulfilled most or all of his promises, while 5% believe that he has fulfilled all of them.
About 19% of respondents believe that Zelenskyy has fulfilled more than half of his promises, while 50% of participants said he has not fulfilled most or all of his election promises.
About 25% of respondents believe that the President of Ukraine has not fulfilled any of his promises.
‘Dishonest and corrupt people in his team’ is the main reason for Zelenskyy's failure to fulfil his promises, with about 50% of respondents giving this answer as an explanation.
Other popular answers include the lack of competent people in the team (32%), Russia's full-scale invasion (31%), Zelenskyy's inexperience and incompetence (27%), and the influence of oligarchs (26%).
About 10% of respondents said that the influence of other countries hindered the president's work, and 10% of participants mentioned the Ukrainian political opposition.
About 14% of respondents said that Zelenskyy is a corrupt official himself. Almost 9% of participants believe that his promises were too unrealistic to be fulfilled.
In the open-ended questions section, respondents mentioned the president's promises, such as ending the war in Donbas, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of the population, according to KIIS Executive Director Anton Hrushetsky.
Zelenskyy's main success is considered to be the rebuff to Russian aggression, Hrushetskyy added, citing the survey results.
The KIIS director noted that the respondents are mainly focused not on Zelenskyy, but on his environment. Most participants named personnel policy as one of the main problems, along with corruption and a full-scale war.
