Five members of the French parliament have written an open letter to the Minister of Defense of the Republic, Sébastien Lecornu, with a demand to send military instructors to Ukraine who will train the Ukrainian military directly in Ukraine, which will significantly simplify logistics and speed up the terms.
This was reported by MP Frederic Petit on the social network.
“We are 5 members of parliament from 5 different political groups, we are appealing to the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Sébastien Lecornu, with a request to send French military instructors to Ukraine. The brutality of the fighting and the advance of russian troops in Donbas make us believe that the military training that was conducted on the territory of France and Poland should now continue on Ukrainian soil,” the appeal says.
The deputies propose to include other countries in this initiative.
“We support the proposal to create a European coalition to send military instructors to Ukraine. Today, France can take a leading role in this coalition together with the British, Polish, Baltic and Scandinavian armies,” the parliamentarians note.
“While the russian federation is attracting thousands of North Korean troops to fight against the Ukrainian army, our response should be to increase direct support of Ukraine. Not to send soldiers to fight against the russian army, – Petit emphasized, – but to send military instructors to train soldiers on Ukrainian soil who defend the integrity of their territory and our democratic values.”
According to the deputies, taking into account possible negotiations, France and European countries should not show any signs of weakness and not allow their behavior to be dictated by the Kremlin's red lines.
In addition to Petit, the appeal was signed by deputies Constance Le Grip, Anna Pic, Mazaury Laurent, and Xavier Roseren.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted the day before:
"I emphasize the importance of inviting Ukraine to NATO and continuing the training and equipping of Ukrainian brigades both in the territories of the allies and through the development of the French idea of training missions in Ukraine."
Background. Recently Le Monde, citing its sources, reported that France and Great Britain have resumed discussions about the possible sending of military personnel or employees of private military companies to Ukraine. According to these sources, Paris and London do not rule out the possibility of creating a coalition to support Kyiv.
