Russia is using new 122-mm Iranian HE-FRAG missiles of the Arash family in Ukraine.
Source. This is reported by Bild with reference to experts from the Ukraine Weapons Tracker project, who noticed them on the official video of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
"The other day, the Russian Defense Ministry published a short video from Ukraine showing Iranian 122-mm HE-FRAG missiles of the Arash family. The Russian Armed Forces use them when firing from Grad multiple rocket launchers. UAWeapons project experts drew attention to the video. Just two weeks ago in New York, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi denied that Tehran was providing Moscow with weapons," Bild writes.
The Ukraine Weapons Tracker project first reported on the use of Iranian missiles in August this year, when experts published footage of missiles fired in 2018 and 2023.
"Footage of Iranian missiles in Ukraine has been posted by various bloggers before. But now the Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed their use. [...] "Grad" fires up to 40 missiles in one salvo, and since the beginning of the war, the Russian Armed Forces have already spent hundreds of thousands of such munitions. Because of this, Moscow constantly needs new missiles for MLRS, in particular from Belarus, the DPRK and Iran," Bild notes.
Background. Earlier, ISW warned that Russia would be able to buy ballistic missiles from Iran after October 18. Russia is interested in Iranian Fateh-110 and Zolfagar ballistic missiles, which have a range of 300 km or more.
